I like this a great deal.

I see where the comparison to tandf comes in, but I think it's more that you're drawing on similar sources of inspiration.

Looking forward to issue 4.

The sheet music on that lullaby is barred weirdly.

but I like that it's actually something and not just vaguely-note-looking things

lends a lot to the atmosphere imo

salty are you trying to tear this person down as part of a bet or something
you really seem to be giving it your all here

anyway as far as the comic goes: i think i like it!
think being the key word, though

i get the same vibe i got when i read space avalanche for the first time, where i felt like i like it, yet i just couldn't make sense of it

but then eventually it just clicked and I'm not sure why i was ever confused
to the point where i'm wondering if he went back and tweaked the strips

uh anyway
i'm sure once a few more are made, it'll be way easier for this whole thing to just 'click' for everybody!

actually perfect stars, too

pbf, maybe. i can't remember being introduced to it myself, but on stuff like stumbleupon it seems like anybody who's never read a strip always fails to get the joke

all three comics turned out to be amazing, so maybe that's a good sign?

I'm a week late replying so it works out. Thank you! That's maybe my favorite feedback yet, cuz that's how I got into a lot of the stuff I like (Sandman Mystery Theatre and Achewood being prime examples: I really didn't get either one at first). I'm going to go off and check out Space Avalanche now, I'm always thirsty for online comics that don't suck

School and stuff will probably delay the fourth issue, but it WILL happen. I’m trying an experiment of doing more “real life” Melies scenes in addition to movie scenes: it may work well, or it may be jarring, but one of the tricky things about this comic is that it’s hard for readers to connect to characters on an emotional level since they don’t really recur or develop. I’d estimate about a two month wait before the next comic comes out.

What do you guys think? I’m kind of shooting for a surreal, poetic vibe to these stories, and I’m less interested in making a big coherent narrative. On the other hand, I do want to write strong characters that linger in the reader’s mind! Are “real life” scenes jarring, or do they add to the comic in a positive way?

just thought achewood looked boring/bad at first and didn't read it

now
in a post-tall comics world
I can see that
it really was boring/bad all along

I meant like in the third issue where the movie stopped and Georges was like "CUT! VEE BEGIN AGAIN!" I kinda want to develop his character more but I'm not sure if that "breaks the spell"

Fourth issue will feature a special guest appearance by God! Sneak preview (which I drew in a notebook while I should have been studying for classes) is up at the blog: http://georgesmeliescomic.wordpress.com ... f-issue-4/

The thing about drawing something set in the early twentieth century is... http://georgesmeliescomic.wordpress.com/2011/12/11/the-thing-about-drawing-something-set-in-the-early-twentieth-century/
Anyway, two more pages to go until I'm done with the next issue.

Instead of a fourth issue, I did a prologue. I think it makes the whole thing make a little more sense. Thanks for all the feedback everyone! http://georgesmeliescomic.wordpress.com/2011/04/14/prologue/

I did a new comic that is about Atlantis. If you feel like it, I'd appreciate any feedback on it, positive or negative! It's at http://www.robertbrudos.webs.com/the-sea-is-stormy-tonight
